The National Institute of Technology (NIT) was established in the year 1962. NIT became a deemed university in the year 2002. Today it enjoys a Deemed University status under a University Grants Commission (UGG) Act. National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra or NIT Kurukshetra (earlier known as Regional Engineering College, Kurukshetra) is a public technical university wholly funded by Government of India. It has been accredited with the status of Institution of National Importance (INI). The institute trains students in the field of academics, research activities, intensive study, and innovative methods of teaching, as a part of the grooming process in this institute.
