Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) is a noted institution situated in northern India offering courses in medical sciences. The institute has been granted the status of Deemed University in 1983 by an Act of legislature on 19th August 1983. It is a post graduate Institute for training, research and patient care. With this objective, various committees appointed by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir identified the specialties in which postgraduate and post doctoral courses would be undertaken.
