The King George's Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh is one of the top 10 medical colleges in India, which came into existence in 1911. It was upgraded into a university in 2002, given a new name (Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University) but after objections from the public and college alumni/ faculty/ students, was again renamed as King George's (KG) Medical University in 2003.
Spread over an area of 1,00,000 square metres, KGMU Lucknow campus is hardly 5 kilometres away from the Charbagh Railway Station and is well connected to the rest of Lucknow. It has a central library that boasts of 23390 books, 27230-bound volumes, 2680 book banks, 3033 theses and 651 CDs (as of July 2015.) There are 15 hostels (boys & girls) in the KGMU campus itself and also a post office, a cafeteria, medical shops, Allahabad Bank branch, underground parking, coffee shops etc.
The King George Medical University Lucknow also has a hospital, the Gandhi Memorial & Associated Hospital, attached to it. This medical university hospital is run by 250+ consultants, 500 doctors, 300 nurses and good number of support staff. The hospital also has a school of nursing attached to it and is well known for the KGMC BSc Nursing course it offers. KGMU Lucknow also conducts a KGMU nursing entrance every year for admission to its 4 year B.Sc Nursing course & other nursing nursing colleges nearby. This year, the Nursing Entrance Exam is on 10 July, 2016 and the KGMC BSc Nursing Result 2016 can be expected on 15 July, 2016.
